Apple Introduces the New iPad

So after all the hype the media has provided, the new iPad is not going to be called the iPad 3 or iPad HD.  Its just the new iPad.  Some specs were expected while others were missed completely.  Again, the media likes to always write about rumors.  Let's dig in and see what the new iPad is all about...

The new iPad will have the following features:

  • Retina Display: 2048 x 1536 for 264ppi.  That is amazing but this was a feature that was rumored many times.
  • A5X processor, not A6 which was previously mentioned.  However, this is a dual core CPU processor not quad-core.  Apple decided to stick with a dual core.
  • Quad-core graphics processor.  This was an unexpected upgrade.  Apple is going in to make the iPad a gamers' delight.  Apple claims that this GPU can deliver four times the performance of a Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.
  • iSight Camera. Similar to the camera on the iPhone 4S, this 5MP camera is capable of capturing 1080p video.  iPhones have one of the best cameras in the smartphone market.
  • Dictation/Speak-to-text.  Nothing innovative as Android has had this for a long time.  However, its new for Apple consumers.  You can now speak instead of typing text.
  • LTE/4G.  Verizon and AT&T customers will enjoy the high speed.  Just expect to pay for this.
  • Larger battery to accommodate the LTE radio plus the Retina Display plus the quad-core GPU processor.  Of course, this added weight and thickness to the iPad.
You can preorder it now but the iPad will be available on March 16th.  Pricing starts at its normal $499 for 16GB WiFi version.  The highest price would be $829 for 64G with 4G.

Apple will also drop the price on the iPad 2 to $399 for the 16GB WiFi model.
